It all started with a skull.
As children, our first taste of freedom is roaming the neighborhood. Without Mom and Dad watching over, there were opportunities for dangerous bike stunts, fireworks in mailboxes, maybe even bullying siblings; but no one’s childhood compares to that of Mario Barth.
At the ripe old age of 12, Mario took needle and ink in hand for the first time, and gave one of his friends his first tattoo – a skull on his arm.
From then on, tattooing was on Mario’s radar. Finding your passion for tattooing while growing up in Austria was like deciding to be a scientist during the dark-ages – not a popular interest to have.
One other minor detail – tattooing was completely illegal. Tattooing was not something easy to SEE in Austria, let alone pursue as a career. While the odds were stacked against Mario ever becoming a tattoo artist, he knew that if it was meant to be, he’d find a way.
As a young adult, he lived freely and didn’t heed the pressures of a restrictive society. Instead he spent his time fixing up mopeds, hitting up nightclubs with his age-old friends, and learning how to break-dance (Yes, break-dance. The man can cut a rug.)...... (read more at mariobarthtattoo.com)
Never Fade Artist Gill Montie:
Tattooing is Gill Montie's religion - ask and he will tell you, it is the one thing he knows to be true in this world.
His hands are his instruments of worship and therefore his means of survival. Sometimes survival means a back alley brawl in the streets of some random city in a random part of the world.
Gill is the ultimate nomad tattoo artist. Never looking back, always ready for the next challenge.
At one time, the harsh reality of being a tattoo artist in America was that sometimes things got rough. Sometimes it's money, sometimes the people you tattoo are up to no good, sometimes scores have to be settled.
That being said, Gill Montie is the razor sharp fangs of a rare beast - one that travels light, fights to the death, and won't ever let you see him flinch.
His tattoos, on his skin and on the skin of others, are badges of honor, a coat of arms worn into the battle of life. Tattoos tell his story, and the story of others, and they are an ever-present reminder of who we are.
The Gill Montie skull tattoo is a coveted symbol to wear on one's skin - it seemed for a while that no tattoo artist could get through this life without a Gill skull tattoo.
Gill Montie's gift to us is that he has the courage to be Gill Montie - wholly, unapologetically a "tattoo man" through and through....... (read more at intenzetattooink.com/neverfade)
Matt Johnson Creative and Copy Writing
Working for Mario Barth has provided me with opportunities to write creatively and for advertising like never before.
From coining the phrase "Never Fade" for our latest campaign to writing his bio and the Intenze Products Brand Review video, the opportunities have been diverse and challenging.
In addition to these writings, several press releases and smaller copy points, but these are the highlights.
Below is a brief description of each, and you can click the thumbnails to experience the final products first-hand.
Intenze Products Brand Review - structured and scripted the video, wrote the voice over and directed its recording.
Mario Barth Bio - I took Mario's first-hand chronicling of his past and put a unique spin on the story to emphasize the opening of his latest venue at the Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, King Ink.
Never Fade - in addition to writing bios for each artist as well as editing their video features, the original "About Never Fade" copy was my handywork as well.
